Episode 47: When ADHD Masks Type 1 Diabetes
What if the symptoms you've been trying to explain are actually Type 1 diabetes?
In this episode, Rhonni shares the story of her 12 year old son Moulaye's Type 1 diagnosis after months of symptoms including nausea and concerns about his growth.
With Moulaye already living with ADHD and anxiety, it was difficult to know what was causing what. Then over the Christmas holidays he became seriously unwell and was rushed to hospital where he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and DKA.
Rhonni talks honestly about the diagnosis, the signs that were missed, managing Type 1 alongside ADHD and neurodivergence and the challenges of navigating school, insulin and everyday life.
We also talk about the importance of trusting your gut, looking back at those little signs and finding your feet in the first six months of life with Type 1.
A really honest and insightful conversation about diagnosis, DKA, ADHD and the reality of parenting a child with Type 1.
