The War on Freedom Tech Is Coming - Lea Thompson

LeahThompson (Girl Gone Crypto) joins me to discuss AI, surveillance, self-custody, open-source software, and why she believes a war on freedom tech may be coming.

We explore how Bitcoin fits into a world where AI can analyze enormous amounts of personal data, scams are becoming more sophisticated, and privacy is increasingly difficult to maintain.

Lea has been creating Bitcoin and crypto content for nearly a decade and is now Head of Marketing at Cake Wallet. In this conversation at Bitcoin Asia in Hong Kong, we discuss what brought her into Bitcoin, why the original freedom-money ethos still matters, and what Bitcoiners should be thinking about as institutional adoption accelerates.

We also get into Silent Payments and Bitcoin privacy, Cake Wallet’s new private messaging app, Radar, the growing relationship between Bitcoin and encrypted communication, and why making privacy tools simple enough for normal people may be just as important as the underlying technology.

If you've ever asked: “Am I too late?” Leah explains why chasing cheap coins in the “crypto casino” can be a trap, why conviction matters more than owning an entire Bitcoin, and why understanding why you own Bitcoin is essential.

Finally, Lea shares her advice for anyone who wants to stop being just a Bitcoin holder and actually build on Bitcoin—whether your skills are in development, marketing, media, design, or something entirely different.

Topics include: Bitcoin privacy, AI and surveillance, freedom tech, open-source software, Cake Wallet, Silent Payments, private messaging, self-custody, hardware wallets, Bitcoin scams, institutional adoption, Monero, and building a career in Bitcoin.

Subscribe for conversations with the people building Bitcoin, freedom technology, and a more sovereign future.

Connect With Us

Lea (@girlgone_crypto) on X: https://x.com/girlgone_crypto

Lea on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/girl_gone_crypto/

Cake Wallet: https://cakewallet.com/

Cake Wallet on X: <a href="https://x.com/cakewalle
