S3, E15: City by Strapping Young Lad

All hail the new flesh! Didn't Go Platinum explores the world of heavy metal's favourite mad scientist, the one and only Devin Townsend. Regular host Tim Bolitho-Jones is joined by artist and the unofficial fourth member of the Bangers & Mosh team, Mr. Dan Goldsworthy, to discuss Strapping Young Lad's City.

Once, this band could have been considered Hevy Devy's "main band." But as his solo career and other projects have exploded in popularity, Strapping Young Lad have faded from the conversation. And that's a damn shame, because City is freaking brilliant, and among the heaviest albums we've covered so far.

Enjoy this deep dive into a fiendish slice of audio extremity, and try to ignore the bit where Tim gets the Ghost and Ki albums mixed up.

You can find Dan and his artwork on Instagram and Linktree.

Follow Didn't Go Platinum on Instagram and Threads at @dngplatinum or email us at dngplatinum@gmail.com

And be sure to check out City by Strapping Young Lad on Spotify.
