It's a special origin episode for John Stewart, in which we learn all about why his dad was shooting apples off his head way back in Pilot. And the answer isn't what we expected! Sure, this one halts the momentum the series had built up with the main mystery plot but this flashback is exceptionally good, nuanced and full of incredible character work and acting.
