You Don't Have to Wait to Be Happy

You Don't Have to Wait to Be Happy3 Aug31 min

If you're one of those people who says "I'll be happy when I make more money," "I'll be happy when my child gets sober," "I'll be happy when my husband starts eating healthy" please stop. You cannot put your happiness on an "if," because you will constantly be chasing that if.

What if the things you're not getting right yet aren't failures… but proof you're still growing? 💛

I've learned to find happiness in the ordinary and the extraordinary, even through addiction, loss, and starting over. And through all that I've learned this: you cannot put your happiness on an "if." You will chase that if for the rest of your life.

Today, I'm talking about the things I'm getting right and the things I'm still working on!!! Ever since I was a girl of 10 years of age sitting on my bed in an uncertain home shaped by alcoholism, books were my sanctuary. I learned that resilient people don't complain, they speak what they want and find solutions in every hardship they're faced with.

I get real about growing up with an alcoholic father, losing my brother to addiction, and the years I spent stuck waiting for outside circumstances to make me happy. I share the moment I finally learned to be okay even when things weren't okay. I close it out reading an affirmation from my new book Joy Is My Favorite Color about seeing yourself the way your Creator sees you.
