What Are You Going to Do About It?
Pastor Joe opens with a vivid story from his childhood — a bully who grabbed his food, looked him dead in the eye, and said, "What are you gonna do about it?" That question becomes the heartbeat of the entire sermon, because every believer faces a common bully called sin. Just like that schoolyard bully, sin doesn't have real power over you — it can only exploit the weaknesses it sees. The good news is that the Word of God is a precision cleansing agent, as Hebrews 4:12 reminds us: "For the Word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow." The question Pastor Joe puts before the church is straightforward — what are you going to do about it?
Drawing from Psalm 119:9-16, Pastor Joe walks the congregation through five practical, actionable steps for dealing with the sin problem. First, guard your way by filling up on the Word of God — and do it now, because problems only get bigger when you leave them alone. Second, seek God with your whole heart, which means prioritizing him daily, removing distractions, and making him the most important voice in your life. Third, ask for help — from God, through the Holy Spirit, and from trusted brothers and sisters in Christ, just as James 5 encourages believers to confess their sins to one another that they may be healed. Fourth, hide scripture in your heart, memorizing and meditating on it so that, like Jesus in Matthew 4, you have the sword of the Word ready when temptation strikes. Finally, delight yourself in the Lord — and understand that delight doesn't just happen overnight. It is a product of desire, and desire is a product of discipline.
