The Beatitudes: The Joy of Persecution - August 2 2026

<p>No one naturally seeks persecution. We instinctively avoid rejection, criticism, and suffering. We want to be accepted, appreciated, and at peace with those around us. Yet as Jesus concludes the Beatitudes, He makes a startling declaration. Instead of saying, &quot;Blessed are those who are admired,&quot; He says, &quot;Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness&#39; sake&quot; (Matthew 5:10). Even more surprising, He commands His followers to &quot;rejoice and be glad&quot; when they are insulted, slandered, and opposed because of Him.</p><p>How can persecution possibly be a source of joy? Is Jesus glorifying suffering? Is He encouraging believers to provoke hostility? Not at all. Rather, He is teaching that faithful disciples should expect opposition in a world that rejects its King. Persecution is not a sign that God has abandoned His people. Instead, it often confirms that they truly belong to Christ and are living for His kingdom.</p><p>The joy Jesus promises is not found in pain itself, but in the eternal realities that persecution reveals.
