How 1850s Presidents Helped Cause the Civil War

A succession of terrible American presidents in the 1850s, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, and James Buchanan, did so much to provoke the U.S. Civil War. Their disastrous policies exacerbated the sin of slavery to lead to the greatest catastrophe in American history.
