Woman sentenced to house arrest after dog attack killed 11-year-old boy

Crystal Jean MacDonald, a 46-year-old Edmonton woman, has been sentenced to two years less a day of conditional house arrest after her two Cane Corso dogs mauled and killed 11-year-old Kache Grist in 2024. MacDonald was convicted of criminal negligence causing death. The tragic incident occurred on April 1, 2024, when the victim was visiting his father, who roomed with MacDonald. While the boy's father was working in the garage and MacDonald was at work, the two dogs—weighing over 100 pounds each—fatally attacked the child inside the home.
