Stony Point spa investigation</strong><br>Stony Point police say a 41-year-old Flushing woman was arrested after an undercover investigation into alleged prostitution-related activity at Duskhil Spa on South Liberty Drive. Police say the investigation began after multiple community complaints, and that the woman was charged with unauthorized practice of a profession and prostitution. Officials also said the town building department issued 15 violations. The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. </p><p><strong>2. Illegal New City daycare civil settlement</strong><br>Clarkstown officials say the town has reached a civil settlement with the operators of what it described as an illegal daycare on Maple Avenue in New City. According to Supervisor George Hoehmann, the agreement includes $40,000 in fines and permanently bars the operators from conducting business in Clarkstown. The town says criminal proceedings tied to child endangerment allegations are still pending through the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office. </p><p><strong>3. Defiant Brewery closing</strong><br>Defiant Brewing Co. in Pearl River says it will close at the end of March, ending a 21-year run as a well-known local gathering place. In its farewell message, the brewery thanked customers for years of celebrations and community events. Rockland News describes Defiant as a longtime fixture that built loyalty through its atmosphere, food, and event space, while also noting that competition and operational struggles appeared to weigh on the business in recent years. </p><p><strong>4. Hole Shot Bagels up for best BEC</strong><br>Hole Shot Bagels in Haverstraw has been nominated for the BECSPK King award for Rockland’s best bacon, egg and cheese sandwich for the second straight year. Owners Clever and Victoria Torres told Rockland News their family-run shop has endured major setbacks over the years, including a 2015 car crash into the building, the COVID-19 pandemic, and Route 9W construction in 2025. They credited strong community support and a focus on quality and service for helping the business keep going. </p><p><strong>5. Suffern wins another state hockey title</strong><br>Suffern High School’s boys hockey team won the NYSPHSAA Division I state championship on March 15 with a 5-2 win over Canton. The victory gave the Mounties their third straight state title and their fourth Division I championship in the last five years. Rockland News says the latest title adds to one of the strongest recent runs in New York high school boys hockey. </p>
