Melvin Odoom: MiniDiscs, Memories and an Olympic Torch

Melvin Odoom: MiniDiscs, Memories and an Olympic Torch4 Aug25 min

In this episode Dilly is joined by Melvin Odoom for a cheeky and surprisingly revealing chat about the objects he just can’t let go of.

Melvin brings along three items that tell the story of his life so far – a stack of MiniDiscs packed with homemade radio demos from his early attempts to break into broadcasting, a treasured Olympic torch from the London 2012 Games, and a retro computer game from his childhood that still brings back memories of growing up.

As Dilly digs into the stories behind each item, Melvin opens up about why he gets emotionally attached to objects, the memories they hold, and why he struggles to throw anything away. From nostalgic childhood moments to the hustle of trying to make it in radio, the conversation is packed with laughs, honest reflections and plenty of cheeky back-and-forth between the pair.

Along the way, Dilly tries to work out whether Melvin is sentimental or simply incapable of having a clear-out – and Melvin does his best to defend the ever-growing collection of memories he keeps around him.

Sort Your Life Out Unpacked is hosted by tidying expert Dilly Carter. In each episode, Dilly chats to a celebrity guest and unboxes three mystery objects from their home that reveal what is really important to them. At the end, Dilly asks her guest whether they are going to keep, donate or recycle any of the items and, along the way, we learn how to organise and sort our own lives out.
