Retailers look for ways to combat shoplifting as police security ends
For years, retailers have been able to hire Winnipeg police officers to work overtime as security, but that will change under new rules. By May 2027, officers will no longer be able to take on 'special duty' work at stores, the city's police chief says. While some shoppers say they're glad to see the change, some retailers are concerned an already bad shoplifting problem will worsen.
