Grace to Grace Part II

This is the part where God gives it back.

Troy walked into Set Free with one bag of clothes and a pillow, and the staff spent two months waiting on him to leave. Nobody with a family that loves them ever stays. He stayed.

It was a converted eleven-room motel in Yulee. They put him in room five with five other men, and inside the first hour he knew God had picked the room. Two weeks later COVID hit and visitation disappeared. At the end of the five-month program, with a war going on inside him about whether to go, God handed him Joshua 1: you've found your rest, now stay until your men find theirs. So he stayed on as an overseer.

Then came the night he finally said take all of it, do what You want to do with me. Troy says the peace that hit him was stronger than anything he felt the day he got saved. He's honest that the hard part of surrender is never the stuff you want to hand over. It's the stuff you want to keep control of.

From there he walks through what God gave back. A wife, Hillary. Children he never expected at this stage of his life, including a daughter named Liberty Ray, because where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. A promise God gave him by a tree at Set Free, straight out of Joel 2. And a couple at church who couldn't sell their house for two years and couldn't figure out why, until the day they handed it to Troy's family along with a car.

Five years to the week after Gina dropped him off, he preached his first message in thirty years.

"I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten." Joel 2:25

In this episode:

(11:52) A peace hit me stronger than anything I got when I got saved

(16:33) I said out loud, this is all you're ever going to be

(26:56) Hold on. God just confirmed it. We want to give you our house

(33:52) He'd give me grace, and I'd spit on it. And He'd come with more

One heads up before you press play: this conversation names addiction, depression and suicidal thinking directly. If you're sitting in that right now, please tell somebody you trust. Troy's story is proof the ending isn't written yet.

Haven't heard Part 1 yet? Go back and start there. This one hits different once you know where he came from.

New episodes every Monday.
