The new threat hovering over the southern border | Bradley on the Border

The Department of War and Border Patrol are laser-focused on the Rio Grande Valley as cartels increasingly turn to drones to surveil agents, guide migrants and potentially carry payloads across the southern border. In this episode of "Bradley on the Border," Ali Bradley gets an exclusive interview with Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Chief Jared Ashby. He told Bradley agents have encountered a drone capable of carrying a payload in the sector within the last several months, calling the drone threat “real.”

Border Patrol says cartels are also using drones from Mexico to guide migrants across without a smuggler physically accompanying them, allowing operators to surveil law enforcement and direct groups remotely. The military has deployed its high-energy laser system to the RGV, while Border Patrol said Customs and Border Protection is strictly using signal-based technology to disrupt drones.

#southernborder #cartels #drones

CREDITS

Host: Ali Bradley

Executive Producer: Andy Gipson

Editorial Producer: Meagan Medick

Segment Producer: Will Tomasi, Christine Jenkinson

Editor: Rob Alvarez

On "Bradley on the Border," NewsNation's Ali Bradley shows what it's like along the southern border and across the country as law enforcement agencies work to combat human and drug smuggling and enforce immigration policies.

NewsNation is your source for fact-based, unbiased news for all Americans.

More from NewsNation: https://www.newsnationnow.com/

Get our app: https://trib.al/TBXgYpp

Find us on your screen: https://www.joinnn.com/

Chapter Summary:

0:00 Intro

0:40 Drug trafficking

1:22 How are cartels smuggling drugs over the border

2:07 Cartel drones

2:48 Laser & energy weapons

4:17 Human smuggling concerns

6:05 Border construction

6:47 Combatting crossings

7:38 Final thoughts
