From Adam's Flesh to Jesus' Quickening Spirit: Paul's Resurrection Chapter and Victory Over Death
Brother Jim Shaw preaches through 1 Corinthians 15, contrasting Adam's natural man with the quickening spirit found in Christ, retelling Paul's dramatic conversion on the road, and closing with Paul's declaration that death is swallowed up in victory.
Adam's Lineage And The Chance Of The Cross
Brother Jim Shaw opens the broadcast explaining that being in Adam's lineage does not get a person far on its own, but it does grant an opportunity, since mankind's forefathers were made in the image of God and are given a chance to be saved through the cross. Apart from that chance, he says, only fleshly curses pass down from Adam to mankind. He points to Genesis 6 and the interjection of fallen angels, then draws a modern parallel to scientists changing the DNA of mankind in a petri dish before placing it in a womb, producing what he calls two-legged people carrying three DNAs. He insists such beings do not come from the lineage of Adam but from the evils of mankind, and that the distinction matters. He then turns the broadcast to 1 Corinthians chapter 15, preparing to read Paul's teaching on the difference between the natural man and the spiritual man reborn in Christ.
Living Soul Versus Quickening Spirit
Reading 1 Corinthians 15:45-47, Brother Jim Shaw explains that the first man, Adam, was made a living soul, while the last Adam, Jesus, was made a quickening spirit. Before receiving the spirit of Jesus, he says, a person still has a soul much like an animal, carrying emotions such as love, kindness, obedience, and loyalty alongside lusts, hatreds, and vulnerability to evil spirits seeking to live inside and take over that soul. He calls Adam the natural man, and explains that without the interjection of a reborn spirit, a person inherits the whole tree of knowledge planted in the midst of the garden, all the good works and kindness mixed together with all the evident evil. That, he says, is the natural man's whole mess, unable to separate the good from the corruption because both come bundled together until Christ intervenes and grants a genuinely new nature from above.
A Personal Testimony Of Being Blind To Jesus
Brother Jim Shaw shares his own testimony, recalling that he was considered a good, likable guy with no objection to rituals, baptisms, confirmations, communions, mass cards, or candles, yet the moment anyone mentioned Jesu
