Born of the Spirit

Born of the Spirit14 sept

Pastor Tim Johnson opens with a pointed challenge to his congregation: Are you born again? Using Romans 10:9-10 as a foundation, he makes clear that salvation is far more than repeating a sinner's prayer or checking a box. True belief, he explains, means allegiance—a full surrender of one's marriage, finances, struggles, and identity to the lordship of Jesus Christ. Drawing on the Greek concept of metanoia (repentance) and sozo (ongoing transformation), Pastor Tim emphasizes that being born again is not a one-time event but a continuous renewal of the mind, will, and emotions. As James 2:19 reminds us, even the demons believe intellectually—but salvation demands far more than mental agreement.

Turning to John 3 and Nicodemus's nighttime encounter with Jesus, Pastor Tim draws out three pillars of the born-again life: regeneration, Revelation, and reflection. He draws on Ezekiel 36 to paint a vivid picture of what regeneration looks like—God removing hearts of stone and replacing them with hearts of flesh, cleansing His people from idolatry and filling them with His Spirit. Revelation, he explains, means learning to see the kingdom of God at work in the world around you, while reflection means that the evidence of the Holy Spirit's presence should be clearly visible to everyone you encounter. Just as the wind cannot be seen but its effects are undeniable, so the fruit of a Spirit-led life should be unmistakable to those around you.
