#356. Wales & British Lion’s Rugby Legend - Jamie Roberts

Jamie Roberts opens up about a life that saw him become a British & Irish Lion, win a Grand Slam with Wales, play 94 Tests and qualify as a doctor, all while squeezing everything he could out of a career that took him around the world.

Called up for the 2009 Lions tour of South Africa aged just 22, Jamie was named player of the series even though the Lions lost. He talks about the brutal second Test at Loftus, the silent dressing room afterwards, and the moment Warren Gatland called him out in front of 70 people for chasing fame over rugby. He also shares the story of being pulled up on stage to play guitar with the Manic Street Preachers in front of 80,000 people.

But rugby was only half of his life. Jamie spent eight years studying medicine alongside professional rugby, sitting his final exams in the same week Wales played England in 2013. From there he played in Paris, London, Bath, Cape Town, Newport and Sydney before retiring in 2022. Now a resident doctor, he speaks openly about the pressure, the sacrifices and why he believes growth lives outside your comfort zone.

This is the Eventful Life of Jamie Roberts
