Fort Laramie - "The Payroll" (Old Time Radio, 1956)

Fort Laramie presents “The Payroll,” episode 34 of the CBS radio drama, originally broadcast September 16, 1956. Raymond Burr stars as Captain Lee Quince in this Kathleen Hite script, produced and directed by Norman Macdonnell.

The fort’s paymaster has been absent for four months, leaving enlisted men short of cash and stretching credit—and patience—across the post. As Trooper Harrison searches for a way to obtain real tobacco, Quince and his officers face the mounting strain on morale and discipline at the frontier garrison.

Fort Laramie presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
