👂🏻 Colloquial phrases to listen for:

ah bon ? 🧩 = c'est vrai ? = really? / oh yeah? Two tiny syllables that stretch from polite interest to open disbelief — the tone does all the work. "Ah bon ? Tu n'as jamais goûté la tarte de ma mère ?" (Really? You've never tasted my mother's tart?)

le souci ✨ = le problème = the snag, the issue. Softer and far more common in speech than le problème, and it makes you sound instantly French. "Le souci, c'est qu'il n'y a plus de places." (The snag is there are no seats left.)

tant mieux 🧩 = so much the better, good. The cheerful shrug for news that happens to suit you. "Il pleut, on reste à la maison ? Tant mieux." (It's raining, we're staying home? Good.)
