The Athlete Dad: Why Fitness Is Not Optional | 364
We have a solo episode this week. Jerred flies solo to talk about being a father and an athlete at the same time, what that has looked like over 14 years and three kids, and how he has kept training consistent from the infant years through the teenage Uber driver years. The big idea is simple: once you decide fitness is not optional, the same way being a husband or a dad is not optional, most of the juggling gets a lot less complicated.
We start with ruthless elimination. Netflix, scrolling, extra hobbies, and people asking for your time all have to go if family, fitness, faith, and finances are the priorities. From there Jerred breaks down setting minimum and maximum standards for each season of life, borrowed from the Air Force PT test, why the agreements we make with ourselves are the easiest ones to break, and why putting your kids first sometimes means skipping a session without beating yourself up.
We also get into time management that actually works: planning tomorrow the night before and then scanning for the obstacles that will wreck the plan, like the meeting that runs long before school pickup. Jerred shares his bare minimum fallback, one piece of the MRF workout, explains how to forecast your daily habits out ten years, and closes with why neither of us deserves a pat on the back for doing what we are supposed to do. The real reward is your kids watching you show up.
