Welcome to Episode 272 of Let’s Get Haunted! Florida’s largest and oldest psychiatric hospital has been called many things: an asylum, a prison, a hospital, and, according to some, one of the most haunted places in the state. LET’S GO WAY DOWN YONDER TO Chattahoochee, Florida(????) to investigate the disturbing history of Florida State Hospital!! What began as a military arsenal became an institution that would house thousands of psychiatric patients, incarcerated people, and some of Florida’s most vulnerable residents. We dig into allegations of abuse and neglect, overcrowded wards, controversial treatments, deaths on the property, and the landmark lawsuit that exposed conditions inside the hospital. Then, obviously, we get haunted. From reports of shadow figures and disembodied voices to the stories surrounding the hospital’s old buildings and cemetery, we’re asking the question we always ask: if a place holds enough suffering, does some of it stay behind?
