PADRES POSTCAST: PADRES WIN 7-6: King Goes 7, Morejon Rescues Eighth, Miller Slams Door

The San Diego Padres survived a wild late rally and beat the San Francisco Giants 7-6, improving to 80-68 and maintaining a one-game lead over Arizona for the final National League Wild Card spot.

Michael King was hit immediately, allowing a single and a two-run Rafael Devers homer to the first two batters he faced, then another solo homer in the second. After that, King completely settled in, retiring 14 consecutive Giants hitters during his turnaround and finishing with 7 innings, 5 hits, 3 earned runs, 0 walks and 4 strikeouts.

San Diego scored in six consecutive innings from the second through the seventh, combining power with excellent situational baseball. Dustin Harris drove in three runs, Jackson Merrill hit a 405-foot game-tying homer, Fernando Tatis Jr. launched a 421-foot homer, and Jake Cronenworth helped manufacture runs with a safety-squeeze bunt single and another sacrifice bunt late in the game. Xander Bogaerts went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and a stolen base.
