Most dental patients think their only option is to pay out of pocket or rely on limited dental insurance, but what if thousands of dollars in treatment could actually be covered through medical billing instead?

Although I don't teach it, I keep up with its impact on dentistry. For many offices, medical billing bridges the gap between what patients need and what they can afford. I'm joined by Danielle Brown and Dental Revenue Network member Sandy Buechler. They explain how dental conditions tied to medical issues like autoimmune disorders, diabetes, cancer treatments, and trauma can qualify for medical coverage when properly documented. The concept of medical necessity is key to coverage. They go over how telling the patient's full health story matters more than just listing procedures. Also discussed is how medical credentialing and pre-authorizations are different from what we see in dentistry.

Beyond the technical side, Sandy and Danielle focus strongly on patient advocacy and empowerment, especially in large and involved cases like full mouth reconstruction and implants.
