Kelly paints misty, layered landscapes inspired by the Sherbrooke rainforest in the Dandenong Ranges — work that captures atmosphere, feeling, light, cloud and place without being tied to one specific location.

We talk about Kelly’s shift from abstract painting into atmospheric landscapes, how lockdown gave her the time to paint more consistently, and the moment she applied for Dandenong Ranges Open Studios and began to feel her work being taken seriously.

Kelly also shares what art prizes, exhibitions, galleries and online platforms have taught her about building momentum as an artist — and why there are many different ways to create a sustainable art career.
