Protect client work and access

Your client files may represent weeks or months of work. Build a backup system that works even when your office, computer, or internet connection becomes unavailable.

- Keep active project files in a secure cloud system.

- Maintain a second backup that you can access from another location.

- Keep an offline copy of essential files when possible.

- Document your file naming system, folder structure, project status, and delivery process.

- Use a password manager and save recovery codes somewhere safe.

- Confirm that your backup system protects client confidentiality.

- Test your backups. A backup only helps when you can restore the files.

Create a short emergency access document that explains where you keep client files, how you access essential software, and how another trusted person could support a handoff.
