Can Spatial Immune Profiling Improve Oncotype Dx Guidance of Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer?

Can Spatial Immune Profiling Improve Oncotype Dx Guidance of Chemotherapy in Breast Cancer?28 ago22 min

Predictions of late recurrence risk in ER+HER2- breast cancer patients remain suboptimal, particularly for patients with intermediate risk determined by the Oncotype Dx Recurrence Score (RS, 16-25). Using spatial proteomics (multiplex immunofluorescence) and spatial transcriptomics, our guest, Zak Kinsella PhD, from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, with his team of co-authors, observed an association between higher stromal tumor-infiltrating CD8+ lymphocyte (sTIL CD8+) density and poor outcome (ΔLR-χ2: 6.79, p = 0.009). The study suggests sTIL CD8+ density as a candidate biomarker for treatment decisions. Nature Communications ( 2026);
