True Story BackgroundHow much of the show actually happened? Robby and Shana break down the real-life chilling inspiration behind the series:

The Real Article: The show is loosely based on a 2018 The Cut article detailing the harrowing experiences of Derek and Maria Broaddus after purchasing a home in Westfield, New Jersey. The Letters: Just like on screen, the real family received deeply disturbing letters from a stalker threatening their children. The Reality Check: Unlike the television series, the real-life family was so terrorized by the letters that they never actually moved into the home. To this day, the true identity of "The Watcher" has never been found.
