The Courage to be a Witness

The focus of this text is on a great man, Naaman, who had leprosy. There is another great man who is important in the story. Elisha was a mighty prophet of the Lord. But there is a little slave girl mentioned and we don’t even know her name. She, however, is a hidden hero and is a key part of this Old Testament story with New Testament implications.

She was an Israelite slave who waited on Naaman’s wife. We don’t know when she was taken captive. She could have been bitter but she wasn’t. It was her simple compassion and willingness to share that turned an impossible situation into a positive outcome. She pointed Naaman to Elisha.

It’s a remarkable account and all the more important to me. This was the

passage of scripture being preached the night when I came to know Jesus. God places people in our lives to serve as pointers. They point us toward a place where hope is found. I want to be that kind of witness.
