His fascination with these questions reaches back to childhood in postwar France, where he remembers the war existing not only in history but in the silences surrounding it. My guest is writer and lifelong student of history Peter Gribble. Peter was born in Montréal, Québec, and now makes his home on British Columbia’s West Coast. His educational journey alone tells us something about the way his mind works. He studied art at Sheridan College School of Design, experimental psychology at the University of Toronto, and education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. He’s written for NUVO and other British Columbia publications, spent years writing about gardening, and worked in bookstores—an experience that strengthened his belief that books can inspire, challenge, and transform us. But tonight we’re entering another world. Peter created the fantasy series The City of the Magicians, set in a civilization that has rejected traditional warfare. Sounds peaceful, doesn’t it? But Peter asks us to look deeper. What happens when physical weapons are replaced by intellect? What happens when psychological strategy becomes power?
