October 9 | From Whoa to Woe

Today's reading from Isaiah 32–33 and Colossians 1 invites us to reflect on how God speaks to His people, both through warnings that call us to turn and through the hope He offers in Christ. Both passages remind us that formation happens as we learn, over time, to listen to God and let Him reshape the direction of our lives.

In Isaiah, the prophet looks toward a king who will reign in righteousness while warning a complacent people who feel secure. As the Assyrian destroyer threatens, the people cry out for God to be their strength every morning. Isaiah reminds them that the Lord will be their sure foundation and that fearing the Lord is the key to lasting treasure, calling them back to a steady rhythm of trust and obedience.

In Colossians, Paul prays that believers would be filled with the knowledge of God's will and bear fruit in every good work. He reminds them that God has rescued them from darkness into the kingdom of His Son, and points them to the supremacy of Christ over all things. It calls us to live aware of who holds all things together and of the calling that flows from that truth.

Together, these passages invite us to consider how we respond when God gets our attention. They ask us to reflect on whether we are listening, and how His warnings and His grace might be drawing us back to Him.
