On this episode of The Cine-Files, hosts Steve Morris and John Rocha continue their Season of Christopher Nolan with Part 4 of their discussion on 'OPPENHEIMER', one of the greatest films of the 21st century. In this episode, they turn the corner into the last hours of the movie and discuss the incredible Los Alamos testing scene, the scene in the high school auditorium with Oppenheimer finally confronting the consequences of what he has created and numerous other scenes from this section of the movie. Oppenheimer won Best Picture for 2023 and it follows the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons during World War II. Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, the film dramatizes Oppenheimer's studies, his direction of the Los Alamos Laboratory and his 1954 security hearing. It stars Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer, alongside Robert Downey Jr. as the United States Atomic Energy Commission member Lewis Strauss.and Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh. It was nominated for thirteen Academy Awards and won seven, including Best Picture, Best Director (Nolan), Best Actor (Murphy), and Best Supporting Actor (Downey). It was named one of the top 10 films of 2023 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.
