He is the author of Europe: A New History.

In this episode, we focus on Europe: A New History. We talk about the origins of the European identity, what “Europe” really is, why we distinguish between Western Europe and Eastern Europe, and whether the European identity is a strong one. We explore the history of Europe, with a focus on the Roman Empire; European colonization, and the concept of “civilization”; decolonization after the World Wars; and the formation of the European Union. We discuss how we think about the war in Ukraine, and far-right narratives surrounding immigration. Finally, we discuss what the “West” is.

--

A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS/SUPPORTERS: PER HELGE LARSEN, ADAM KESSEL, MATTHEW WHITINGBIRD, ARNAUD WOLFF, TIM HOLLOSY, HENRIK AHLENIUS, ROBERT WINDHAGER, RUI INACIO, ZOOP, MARCO NEVES, COLIN HOLBROOK, PHIL KAVANAGH, SAMUEL ANDREEFF, FRANCIS FORDE, TIAGO NUNES, FERGAL CUSSEN, HAL HERZOG, NUNO MACHADO, JONATHAN LEIBRANT, JOÃO LINHARES, STANTON T, SAMUEL CORREA, ERIK HAINES, MARK SMITH, JOÃO EIRA, TOM
