From Fairhaven to Frostburg: A Parent’s Perspective

What does a complete K–12 Sudbury/democratic education look like in the real world? In this episode, we sit down with Lovannia Dofat-Avent, mother of Amadi (Class of 2023). Lovannia reflects on her son’s entire 14-year journey at Fairhaven School, from his early childhood years to navigating the transition to college on his own terms. Now that Amadi is thriving at Frostburg State University, Lovannia shares how her perspective on non-traditional education has evolved, what it was like to trust the process, and how Fairhaven prepared her son for a fulfilling life as an adult.
