We NEED To Talk About Arsenal Loosing To Brighton

Brighton 3-0 Arsenal. Arsenal suffer their first Premier League defeat of the season as Mikel Arteta’s side are beaten convincingly at the Amex Stadium — but is it really time to panic?

In this Arsenal match reaction, I break down a frustrating afternoon for the Gunners as Brighton end Arsenal’s perfect start to the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Arsenal were comfortable in possession for much of the opening 30 minutes, but the game completely changed when Brighton found the breakthrough. David Raya will inevitably face criticism after being beaten from range, before Arsenal suddenly began to look shaky and Brighton struck again before half-time.

I discuss Arsenal’s lack of quality in the decisive moments, Bruno Guimarães’ unusually loose passing and Christos Tzolis’ performance on the left. Tzolis struggled to consistently beat his man and too often came inside before recycling possession — but after just five Premier League games, this is absolutely not the time to turn on new players.

I also look at Raya’s afternoon, including whether he could have done more for Brighton’s goals and whether he should have been stronger from the corner that eventually made it 3-0.

There was also a fascinating decision from Mikel Arteta while Arsenal were searching for a way back into the match. Viktor Gyökeres remained on the bench, with Arteta instead turning to midfield options. What does that tell us about where Gyökeres currently stands in the Arsenal pecking order?

Ultimately, Arsenal have played five Premier League games, won four and lost one. Nobody realistically expected Arsenal to win every match this season. A 3-0 defeat hurts and there are plenty of things to analyse, but one bad afternoon doesn't suddenly undo everything we've seen from this team.

The response is what matters now.
