Doug Sahr: Rooted in West Orange, Running to Protect Its Future

What does a community stand to lose when its growth outpaces its stewardship?

On The Magnificent Ones, Oakley welcomes Doug Sahr, candidate for Orange County Soil and Water Conservation District, Seat 1, in Florida, for a conversation about the roots, values, and purpose behind his campaign.

Raised by his grandparents on seven acres in rural West Orange County, Doug grew up tending animals, growing vegetables, and exploring the woods. Today, his commitment to that community carries into a campaign focused on protecting its land, water, and agricultural heritage.

His priorities include conservation, the effects of unchecked growth, flooding, declining tree canopy, and stronger connections between residents, farmers, and public agencies. Through service with organizations including Matthew’s Hope, 8 Waves, and Second Harvest Food Bank, Doug has developed a philosophy that guides his approach: “always give more than you take.”

Get to know the person behind the candidacy, why this office matters to him, and the community he hopes to serve.
