You watch too much TV | Sherri Rasmussen

In 1986, nurse Sherri Rasmussen was found beaten and shot in her Van Nuys condo, three months after her wedding. The LAPD called it a burglary gone wrong. Her father, Nels, knew better. He gave detectives a name: Stephanie Lazarus, her husband's ex, who had threatened Sherri and turned up in her living room. Detectives told him he watched too much TV.

The thing is, Stephanie was a cop.

For 23 years, the case sat cold while she climbed the ranks to LAPD detective. Then a forgotten DNA swab, a box left on the floor near a detective's desk, and a Costco cup cracked it wide open. In this episode, we cover the love triangle, the staged crime scene, the jaw-dropping interrogation, her 2023 confession, the parole fight, and the questions about missing files that still haven't been answered.

Sherri did everything right. The one thing she couldn't do was call the police.
