Knowler Knows: Biometric issues at the bank

Relebogile Mabotja speaks to consumer journalist Wendy Knowler about the case of Cape Talk listener Thomas Johnson, 64, who has banked with Standard Bank for 30 years. In August, he was told that his fingerprints could not be verified against Home Affairs’ records. Despite returning to the bank around six times, he received the same official letter addressed to Home Affairs, requesting verification of his biometrics. Until the issue was resolved, the bank told him it could not process any further transactions. So, what happens when your fingerprints are rejected by the system, even when they are correct?
