#47—Fall Birds Keep Coming As We Band #5,000

An immature female Rose-breasted Grosbeak brought a milestone to Hilton Pond North: Our 5,000th bird banded since March 2024! In Installment #47 of "This Week at Hilton Pond North," we reveal her golden underwings, describe a Chestnut-sided Warbler's unusual plumage, and mention a Magnolia Warbler's distinctive tail. We also examine how migrating birds fuel their journeys—and why native Dogwood and Spicebush fruits are so valuable along the way.

We include our latest banding and recapture tallies while a slow-moving Dusky Slug makes an appearance. Check it out in our new “Deep Dive” podcast before taking a look at all our images at https://www.hiltonpondnorth.org/twahpn-20260916.html
