Greater Idaho: The Movement to Redraw America’s State Boundaries |10|15|26
What we are doing is not working, and we need to seek a multitude of innovative ideas to strengthen conservative parts of America. One of them is the Greater Idaho movement that has led to the broad effort to unify large swaths of rural areas in blue states with neighboring red states. I’m joined by Matt McCaw, executive director of Greater Idaho, to discuss the effort behind Eastern Oregon's massive push to join Idaho. We break down how the process of seeking a "national divorce" at the state level can force a political inflection point, empower local defiance against blue-state mandates, and rejuvenate red-state America. Matt reveals how the same milquetoast Republicans who squander political capital and fail to protect grassroots voters are an obstacle to Greater Idaho. He also discusses similar movements in Illinois, Washington, California, Virginia, and elsewhere, exploring why some rural communities want to join neighboring states whose political priorities more closely reflect their own.
