Who Controls Georgia’s Food? ft. Katherine E. Juhan-Arnold | Conversate with Killer Mike ep. 64

What happens when Georgia loses its farms, its farmland and its ability to feed itself?

Killer Mike and Cutmaster Swiff sit down with Katherine E. Juhan-Arnold, farmer, founder and Democratic candidate for Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture, for a conversation about an office most voters may overlook but one that touches everything from the food on your table to the price you pay at the grocery store.

Katherine explains how losing her job led her back to the lessons her grandmother taught her about growing food and eventually to building Baby Katie’s Farm and Kitchen. She breaks down Georgia’s disappearing farms, food deserts, the importance of buying locally, protecting farmland and creating regional food systems that keep more of Georgia’s agricultural economy inside the state.

The conversation also gets into the growing demand for land and water from data centers, opportunities in rural Georgia, agriculture education in schools, Black farmers and heirs property, migrant farm labor, marijuana licensing and why agriculture includes far more than working in a field. Katherine argues that there is a place in the industry for farmers, lawyers, accountants, mechanics, builders, entrepreneurs and the next generation of Georgians.Plus, Katherine gives Killer and Swiff practical advice on what people can start growing at home right now.

Most importantly, the conversation is a reminder to read the entire ballot. The races near the bottom can have a much bigger impact on your everyday life than you realize.
