Night Dreamer — Wayne Shorter (Blue Note, 1964)

Recorded on this date in 1964.

By April nineteen sixty-four, Shorter had already logged time with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, but Night Dreamer was his moment to step forward as a leader with something to say. Blue Note paired him with Lee Morgan on trumpet, McCoy Tyner on piano, Reggie Workman on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums -- borrowed from Coltrane's quartet for the session.
