“He Was Supposed to Be Home in Hours": Eilat Widow Remembers Her Husband Itamar, 3 Years After October 7th; Israel Daily News; Mon. Oct 5, 2026
Three years after the October 7th massacre, the Israel Daily News is marking the anniversary by sitting down with the widows of the men who ran toward the fight.
Our guest is Alma from Eilat. Her husband Itamar was a high school math teacher, a devoted dad to Uri and Ayala, and the sniper commander of Lotar Eilat, the city's counter-terror reserve unit.
On October 7th he rushed to the Gaza border communities and fought to save lives. Over the next year he went into Gaza seven times.
Alma shares their love story, how she told her children, and life as one of the 1,400 new widows and orphans since October 7th.
She also reads Itamar's own, compelling words to Israel, written from Gaza. He penned the essay for his students back home. You won’t want to miss that.
