Gunsmoke - "The Man Who Would Be Marshal" (1956)
Gunsmoke, “The Man Who Would Be Marshal,” originally broadcast March 18, 1956, is episode 206 of the classic CBS Radio series. William Conrad stars as Dodge City Marshal Matt Dillon in this John Meston script, produced and directed by Norman Macdonnell.
Former military man Emmett Egan arrives in Dodge City convinced he is qualified to take Dillon’s job. Given a chance to observe the marshal for a week, Egan learns that frontier law enforcement demands more than confidence, command experience, and a badge.
Old Time Western Radio presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
