Three Years After October 7: What Have We Learned?
Three years after October 7, Hamas and Iran have been battered, but Khaled Abu Toameh warns the ideology driving their war is still very much alive.
Today, Dan Diker and Abu Toameh examine what they see as the central lesson Israel and the West have yet to fully absorb: military victories can destroy weapons and commanders, but they cannot eliminate the ideology behind jihadist movements. They explain why Hamas remaining in power in Gaza could itself be portrayed by its supporters as a victory, how the attempted FlyDubai attack fits into a much wider threat and why negotiations with armed Islamist groups can carry unintended consequences. Finally, they turn to Iran, Jerusalem and the bigger question three years after the massacre: what will it actually take to prevent the next October 7?
