Plato, The Lysis - Love, Similarity, and Affinity - Sadler's Lectures

Plato, The Lysis - Love, Similarity, and Affinity - Sadler's Lectures29 sept.11 min

This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher Plato's dialogue, the Lysis, focused on the nature of love and friendship

This lecture focuses specifically on the end of the dialogue, which ends in aporia, the interlocutors considering themselves to be friends, but not being able to arrive at a satisfactory account of what friendship is or how it arises and works. They do consider one promising idea, however, which is that friendship in some way is between those who have an affinity or affiliation with each other (oikeios).
