标题:Boomers Are Sacrificing Retirement Savings to Support Their Grandkids
正文:Half a century ago, learning English went almost overnight from being discouraged to a national obsession. Throughout the 1980s and beyond, young and old alike would gather in parks, at what became known as “English corners”, to practise with each other. The language became a core part of the national curriculum, on a par with maths and Chinese, right up to the gaokao, or university entrance exam.
知识点:overnight adv. /ˌəʊvəˈnaɪt/
· 英文释义:suddenly and unexpectedly; in a very short period of time
The small startup became a household name overnight after its app went viral.
You can't expect to master a new language overnight; it takes years of consistent practice.
