141. History of the Israelites, Part 1 (Nehemiah 9)

Two weeks after the block party that closes Chapter 8, we turn the page to find everyone fasting through a 12-hour day of scripture reading and communal confession — for sins they didn't personally commit. Along the way we discover a mysterious gap in their timeline, extra details added to biblical stories that weren't there the first time around, and a prayer that never actually asks for anything.

We come across dragon-slaying giant kings, God's womb-like maternal love, and Persian mythology's fingerprints on how Judeans talked about God.

As if that wasn't enough for one day, we also ask why you should read multiple Bible translations, whether gender-inclusive language belongs in scripture, why ancient Israel wasn't actually monotheistic, why the biblical authors thought you're partly responsible for your ancestors' sins, and what biblical forgiveness actually means (Hint: it's not what you were taught in church!).

Website: TheBibleUncut.com (show notes available in the blog section)

Donate: TheBibleUncut.com/support-us

Discord: TheBibleUncutandUnfiltered

Email: cconn@thebibleuncut.com

Facebook: TheBibleUncutandUnfiltered

Instagram:
