Synopsis

Even one who studies in a local yeshivah and eats and sleeps in his parents’ home can achieve the quality of “Exiling yourself to a place of Torah” – by “exiling” himself from mundane matters and making them external aspects of his life, while placing his inner being “in a place of Torah.” This relates to the verse in revi’i of parashas Noach, “Go out from the teivah”: A person must be permeated and surrounded by faith in Hashem, love of Hashem, and fear of Hashem, which are like a “teivah.” But in order for his Torah study (through which he goes out into the true world – “He looked into the Torah and created the world”) to be done properly, he must “Go out from the teivah,” meaning he must strive to understand the Torah with his intellect (where faith is not as openly revealed etc.). But the Torah study must be founded upon the prior foundation of the teivah (faith etc.) so that he will not be motivated by a desire to prevail in his arguments etc., and to remove anything that could interfere with the “wondrous union” formed between his intellect and Hashem through Torah study.
