Synopsis

A lesson from parashas Bereishis for yeshivah students (who, alongside the feeling of satisfaction from their success in Torah study, must also be “anxious in their heart” over the time that has not been utilized properly; and in any event, one can certainly add even more): The parashah begins with the verse, “In the beginning of G-d’s creation of the heavens (‘to include their offspring’) “and the earth” (“to include its offspring”). The Zohar states that just as the Holy One, blessed be He, creates the world through the Torah, so too, one who studies Torah sustains (his portion of) the world. It may be said that this effect upon the world is brought about particularly through the study of Nigleh (where the primary focus is on refining the “earth”) and Chassidus (where the primary focus is on the study of the “heavens,” etc.) together. Since “A person is obligated to say: The world was created for my sake,” one must fully devote himself, invest himself, and be permeated with Torah study. May it be Hashem’s will that from now on, everyone will study Torah in an entirely new manner, and that “You will labor and find success,” amidst proper health and without disturbances.
