#45: 4 Biggest Myths About Healing from Purity Culture

I recorded this one completely unedited on a walk in my baby free time, busting the 4 biggest myths I see keeping people stuck when it comes to healing from purity culture.

Myth 1: Healing means swinging to the opposite extremeI break down why you don't have to go from "don't do this" to bulls to the wall, zero boundaries, crystal wand in hand, in order to heal. For some people that pendulum swing genuinely happens, and there's nothing wrong with it, but it's not a requirement.

Myth 2: Healing means you have to leave or blow up your marriageI talk about why deconstructing purity culture doesn't automatically mean the end of your relationship, what actually tends to change, and why the process can get messy without being doomed.

Myth 3: Healing means you have to leave your faith altogetherI explain the difference between deconstructing harmful teachings and leaving your faith completely, and why you don't have to become a Tantra teacher, an atheist, or adopt any particular spiritual practice once you start this work.

Myth 4: Healing means you have to want BDSM, swinging, or anything "extreme"I get into why staying vanilla and monogamous doesn't make you any less healed, and why being sexually liberated is an internal feeling, not a performance.

I also talk about the paradox that you are already whole, and that healing is about remembering that rather than reaching some perfect future version of yourself.

Whether you've left the Faith, you're still practising, or you're somewhere in the messy middle, this episode is for you.

I also share details of my upcoming live workshop, Healing from Purity Culture, on 28 September.

Join us here: https://lucyrowett.podia.com/healing-from-purity-culture

Resources mentioned:

Healing from Purity Culture workshop: https://lucyrowett.podia.com/healing-from-purity-culture

The Routledge International Handbook of Sexual Compulsivity and Clinical Sexology (I wrote Chapter 28 on the impact of purity culture): https://
